● Responsibilities： - Play a key role in Whitehall policy development, ensuring day-to-day activity works towards UK strategic goals established in line with Defra, DIT and FCO. This will involve a range of skills relating to delivery (including at pace), managing priorities, communicating effectively, and managing staff.
- Lead bilateral policy delivery in the area of agriculture, producing consistent, high-quality intelligence and timely reporting.
- Act as Defra’s representative in Canada, maintaining a strong and informative relationship with Defra’s diplomatic engagement team and country leads in London and contribute to the establishment of the UK’s burgeoning overseas agricultural network.
- Engage proactively with Canadian federal and provincial governments, establishing a number of docking points into the system, particularly with agriculture and trade ministries, and key public bodies. a
- Understand, map and leverage the key influencers in the agri-food space, pursuing and maintaining awareness of the local political landscape and identify big picture developments which may affect agriculture priorities.
- Monitor the Government (National and Provincial level) support being offered to Canadian farmers and industry to identify any developments that may impact on the UKs ability to compete on a level playing field.
- Understand WTO rules and obligations, and apply this knowledge in monitoring Canadian compliance at National and Provincial level.
- Identify and manage agri-food issues that may impact trade before they escalate in to more formal disputes.
- Develop key relationships with decision-makers and influencers within Quebec’s trade, economic and industrial policy arenas.

● Requirements： - An undergraduate/Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, business, or related discipline
- 3+ years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of current trends in Canadian agriculture policy and agri-business
- Understanding of the Canadian federal and provincial system, and machinery of government
- High degree of technical expertise and confidence in communicating and influencing, at all levels, on a complex and rapidly evolving policy area
- Ability to write clearly for a range of audiences in varying degrees of detail
- Proven ability to work within changing circumstances and willingness to be adaptable to new priorities
- Must be fluent in French and English (speaking, reading, writing).
- Ability to travel frequently.
- Experience working in the Canadian federal or provincial government, industry association, or other diplomatic mission
- Knowledge of UK government intellectual property and/or agriculture priorities
- Understanding of Canadian and international trade policy
- Language: English & French。Level of language required: C1 Minimum
